Kumanoa iyengarii (Skuja ex Balakrishnan & B. B. Chaugule) E. K. Ganesan & J.A.West
Ganesan & West 2013, p. 4.
Taxonomic synonym: Batrachospermum iyengarii Skuja ex Balakrishnan & Chaugule, 1980c . p.232, figs 2–13; Desikachary et al. 1990, Part II A, p. 98; Kumano, 2002, p. 124, pl. 132, figs 1,2.
Distribution in India: Andhra Pradesh (Mamandur); Karnataka (Londa).
Notes: Like Kumanoa dasyphylla , this species was described, illustrated and validated with a Latin diagnois by Balakrishnan & Chaugule (1980c), since Skuja annotated it as a manuscript name. This monoecious species is notable for the formation of spermatangia in clusters, which seems to be a consistent and reliable specific character. According to S. Ryman, there is no material of this species of the Iyengar collections from India in UPS; see however, Balakrishnan & Chaugule, 1980c).
