TYPE LOCALITY: “ in tota Italia, sed magis in superiore et media [in all Italy, but above all in northern and central Italy]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 37): Limosina Macq. / roralis m. / 1955 / Lectotypus Limosina roralis Rond. , ♂, J. Roháček des. 1981 / Leptocera (s. str.) nigra Oliv. , ♂, J. Roháček det. 1981.

PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 5 ♂♂ (all covered with mold and partially destroyed by the pin, one missing head, right wing and all legs) ( MZUF: Box 37): Limosina Macq. / roralis m. / 1955 / Paralectotypus Limosina roralis Rond. , ♂, J. Roháček des. 1981 / Leptocera (s. str.) nigra Oliv. , ♂, J. Roháček det. 1981; 1 ♀ (partially covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 37): Limosina Macq. / roralis m. / 1955 / Paralectotypus Limosina roralis Rond. , ♀, J. PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (slightly moldy, double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin) (MZUF: Box 37): Limosina Macq. / roralis m. / 1955 / fuscipennis apud [similar to] Rond., Dr. Villeneuve det.; 1 ♂ (missing head) (OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box 15): Type / L. roralis Ex. Coll. Big./ L. roralis Europe, Rondani / Limosina Mac. ; 2 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀ (one missing left mid- and hind-legs; one missing left fore-leg; one very moldy) (OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box 15): Type / L. roralis Ex. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Leptocera nigra Olivier, 1813 View in CoL ( Papp 1984d: 90, Roháček et al. 2001a: 156).

REMARKS: Rondani (1880: 39) described Limosina roralis without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he wrote: “ frequens in tota Italia … [common in all Italy …]”. Roháček (1982: 6) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (5 ♂♂, 1 ♀) but did not mention an additional six specimens: one in the MZUF and five in the OUMNH (all are paralectotypes).
