Both species belong to the section Diffusae (Benth. in De Candolle 1846: 284) Wettst. in Engler & Prantl (1891: 59), a group with non-discoid seeds and undivided style. Linaria turcica was named after the country of Turkey and characterized by alternate lower leaves and a reddish and purple corolla with yellowish cream parts, whereas L. tursica Valdés & Cabezudo , named after Tursa, an ancestral name of the Tartessus civilization from the Southwestern Iberian Peninsula, presents verticillate lower leaves and a blue-violet corolla with orange and yellowish parts.
