TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (glued to a cardboard stage, covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 35): Lonchea Fall. / scutellaris n. / 1830 / Lectotypus [not designated] Lonchea scutellaris Rondani , ♀, det. G. Morge, Ex. 525; 1 ♂, paralectotype ( MZUF: Box 35): Lonchea Fall. / scutellaris n. / 1830 / Paratypus Lonchea scutellaris Rondani , ♂, det. G. Morge, Ex. 524; 1 ♂, paralectotype ( MZUF: Box 35): Lonchea Fall. / scutellaris n. / 1830 / Paratypus Lonchea scutellaris Rondani , ♂, det. G. Morge, Ex. 526.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species as Lonchaea scutellaris View in CoL ( Kovalev & Morge 1984: 257, Belcari et al. 1995b: 5).
REMARKS: Rondani (1875a: 271) described Lonchea scutellaris from four specimens without specifying their sex: “ Specimina tria legi in collibus agri parmensis , et unum a D. Piccioli etruscum, accepi [I collected three specimens in the Parmese hills, and received one from Etruria from D. Piccioli]”. Günter Morge examined the MZUF type series, adding the label “ lectotypus ” under one female and “ paratypus ” under each of the two males, without, as far as we know, publishing a lectotype designation ( Morge 1959a, 1962a, 1963). We also found just three syntypes in this study. In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to G. Morge and here designate as a lectotype for Lonchea scutellaris Rondani, 1875 the female labeled as such by him. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Lonchea ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Lonchaea Fallén, 1820 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 108).
