sp. nov.

Mallomonas skvortsovii E.S. Gusev, H. Doan-Nhu, L. Nguyen-Ngoc & D. Kapustin sp. nov. ( Figs 17–20 View FIGURES 17–21 )

Cells dimensions unknown. Scales are large, tripartite. Dome large, with parallel ribs (up to 10), more easily observed with TEM. Body scales suboval, 6.0–6.7 × 3.2–3.5 μm. Apical scale is slightly asymmetrical, 5.4 × 3.0 μm. Proximal border wide, with internal struts. Posterior flange narrow and smooth.Anterior flange with papillae. V-rib is prominent, wide, with internal struts. There is a one single pore at the base of the V-rib. Anterior submarginal rib is absent. Shield with densely and regularly arranged in distinct rows papillae. Papillae are placed in the angles of meshes of the internal reticulation, visible only on TEM images. Cysts and bristles unknown.

Type: — VIET NAM. Dong Nai Province: Dak Lua swamp in Cat Tien National Park . 11°30’43” N, 107°22’56” E, 10 th of March 2014, leg. E.S. Gusev, sample DL2/3, 10.03.2014, in collection E.S. Gusev. Holotype designated here: Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17–21 (herbarium IBIW!). Distribution and habitat:— This species was only found at the type locality. GoogleMaps

Etymology:— Named in honor of Boris V. Skvortsov (1896–1980) for his contribution to world phycological research.

Observations: Mallomonas skvortsovii was found in a Dak Lua swamp with pH=5.2, temperature 24°C and low conductivity values (10 μS cm-1). Scales of this species were very rare in the sample, 1 scale per 4 TEM grids.
