Material examined. HNHM AF /5369 one ex. French Guiana, Nouragues Nature Reserve, rain forest. Coll. T. Pavlíček, 0 6 January 2009., AF /5382 two ex. French Guiana, near Cacao. Coll. T. Pavlíček, 0 4 January 2009, AF /5384 one ex. French Guiana, Kourou. Coll. T. Pavlíček, 0 3 January 2009.
Diagnosis. L. 150–160 mm, D. 6–7 mm. No. segments 110–140. Color dark brown-violet dorsally and paler ventrally. Clitellum ½15–½27 saddle shaped. Tubercles long bands on ¼20, 21–½27. Muscular gizzard in 6, calciferous glands composite-tubular, eight pairs in 7–14. Lateral commissures in 7–9, oesophageal hearts in 10–11. Testes and funnels in 10, 11, in perioesophageal testis sacs. Spermathecae Salix leaf-shaped, four pairs in 5/6–8/9. Genital setae 1.5 mm long, 0.05 mm in diameter, spear-shaped with 9–10 crescentic indentations ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 9 – 11 ).
Remarks. M. (Mp.) tenkatei ( Horst, 1887) was described by several not fully adult specimens from Suriname. Michaelsen (1918) examined one of the syntypes and several other fully adult specimens and corrected the erroneous clitellar data of Horst as follows: clitellum 16–27, tubercles 21–27. Later, Černosvitov (1935) described a new variety of M. tenkatei , M. tenkatei var. geayi from French Guiana, which differed from the nominal species by having much longer tubercles on 17–21. Zicsi (2001), in his revision of the subgenus Martiodrilus (Maipure) , elevated M. tenkatei var. geayi to species rank. Our specimens fit the revised diagnosis of M. tenkatei better, however, the question arises whether Černosvitov miscounted the length of the tubercles. If this is the case, M. (Mp.) geayi is simply synonymous with M. (Mp.) tenkatei .
