Maruina (Maruina) namorada Hogue View in CoL

( Figs. 36–40 View FIGURE 36–40 )

Maruina (Maruina) namorada Hogue, 1973: 30 View in CoL .

Diagnosis. Combination of the following characters: gonostylus longer then gonocoxite, slightly curved with rounded apex; aedeagus with many long, thin and apically hooked spines and a pair of short curved posterior spines; aedeagal sheath with apical sclerotized arch transverse and straight.

Redescription. Male. Head ( Fig. 36 View FIGURE 36–40 ): distance between eyes equivalent to 7 facet diameters; antenna with pedicel shorter than scape ( Fig. 37 View FIGURE 36–40 ), 14 flagellomeres with a pair of ascoids, apical flagellomere sub-circular; palpus formula: 1.0:1.0:1.2:2.1. Wing ( Fig. 38 View FIGURE 36–40 ): C with break on anterior margin, at the level of base of R 1, R 2 united to R 4 and R 5, R 3 short, M 1 united to M 3, M 2 incomplete. Wing length 1,12 mm, maximum width 0,174 mm. Terminalia ( Figs. 39–40 View FIGURE 36–40 ): gonocoxite with 17–19 setae on dorsal surface, gonostylus longer than gonocoxite, slightly curved with rounded apex, epiproct with apical micropilosity, epandrium sub-rectangular, hypandrium present; aedeagus with many long and thin spines medially and a pair of thick curved posterior spines, aedeagal sheath with sclerotized arch near apex represented by a transverse straight bar with a 90° curvature on its ends; ejaculatory apodeme articulating with base of gonocoxites; epandrium with a single central aperture, apical margin concave; subepandrial sclerite Vshaped; epandrial appendage digitiform, with a single elongated digitiform tenacula at apex ( Fig. 40 View FIGURE 36–40 ); epiproct with micropilose caudal digitiform projection medially; hypoproct subquadrate with posterior margin straight.

Female. Similar to male except: Head: distance between eyes equivalent to 8 facet diameters. Wing: length 1,97 mm, maximum width 0,330 mm. Terminalia: triangular internal fold of hypogynium not extending beyond apical margin of lobulae, internal lateral bristles projecting medially from distinct small posterolateral lobulae.

Material examined. Type material: holotype: ♂ BRAZIL, Rio de Janeiro, Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, Rio Campo Belo , 26-28.xi.1970, col. C. L. Hogue, D. B. Bright, J. Guimarães ( MZUSP) ; Paratype ♀ same data .

Distribution. Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

Holotype condition. Slide mounted, head and terminalia not separated from thorax and abdomen.

Remarks. Among Maruina species known from Brazil, the shape of the subapical sclerotized arch on the aedeagal sheath of this species is very characteristic. Similar strongly sclerotized subapical sclerotized arch is also seen on the aedeagal sheath of M. (M.) chamaca Hogue from Costa Rica, but in this species the arch is horseshoeshaped and not straight as in M. (M.) namorada .
