Melanabropsis yanbarensis ( Ôshiro, 1995) View in CoL comb. nov.

Anabropsis yanbarensis: Ôshiro, 1995 , Japanese Journal of systematic Entomology, 1(2): 133.

Paterdecolyus yanbarensis: Johns, 1997 , Journal of Orthoptera View in CoL Research, 6: 128; Ichikawa, 2002, Tettigonia View in CoL , 4: 32; Mashimo, Fukui & Machida, 2016, Arthropod Structure & Development, 46(6): 637–641.

Apteranabropsis yanbarensis: Sugimoto & Ichikawa, 1998 , Gekkan-Mushi, 329: 23, 26.

In the original description of this speices, Ôshiro (1995) wrote ‘ Prosternum with a pair of nearly erect spines whose tips are needle-like. Mesosternum with a pair of similar spines, which, however, are longer and broader than those of prosternum. Metasternum without these spines’. But in redescription from Sugimoto & Ichikawa three years later, they noted in Japanese ‘ 前胸̝̣は黒く,̠沢が̙り,̹どら̭ıが̙るが毛̼点刻は̞い,中胸 ̝̣̼後胸̝̣も̠沢をも,。̫̟̞動かせる前̘が̙り,̜̩状の彫刻が̙る。腹̣に棘は̞い。 (pronotum is black and shiny, there is a furrowed groove but with no hair or puncture, meso- and metanotum are also shiny. It has a small movable fore wing and has mesh-like sculpture. There are no spines on the sterna), and in the short English description they did not describe thoracic segments, but they made this redescription based on materials other than type specimens. Moreover , because of the popularity of this species within Japan, there are many photos taken by insect fans and photographers. It is clearly indicated that this species lacks prosternal spines ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ). In this case, we believe that this species and two other Japanese species with sterna unarmed and are congeners of the new species .

This species is distinguished from type species by unarmed dorsal surface (maybe variably intraspecific) of fore tibia, the tegmina larger and presence of wings, dark patches of legs with a distinct border.

Distribution: Japan (Okinawa Island, the Ryukyus).
