Membracis fairmairi Goding, 1928 View in CoL
Membracis foliata View in CoL ; Fairmaire, 1846, p 245, pl 4, Figure 21 (type-locality: “Cayenne”). Membracis fairmairi Goding, 1928, p 201 View in CoL ; McKamey, 1998, p 209 (cat.).
Membracis fairmairei [sic]; Metcalf and Wade, 1965, p 1229 (cat.).
Fairmaire (1846) presented M. foliata View in CoL and indicated Figure 21 at Plate IV of his work. This figure, however, illustrates a very different specimen from which he referred to in the description (= M. flaveola View in CoL ): “Flava, fascia maculaque fere triangulari nigris [yellow, with band and triangular spot black]”.
Goding (1928) named it M. fairmairi , with the following diagnosis “Dorsum with a transverse white band extended to and along lateral margins to subapical band, anterior half of pronotum immaculate black”.
M. fairmairi closely ressembles M. celsa , except for the anterior vertical white band on the pronotum, which is absent in the former species. No specimens of this species were examined. The type-locality is “Cayenne” [French Guyana], as indicated by Fairmaire.
