Membracis fusifera Walker, 1858 View in CoL
( Figure 17)
Membracis fusifera Walker, 1858a, p 58 View in CoL (type-locality: Brazil, Para); Metcalf and Wade, 1965, p 1258 (cat.) (= M. zonata Fairm. View in CoL ); Broomfield, 1971, p 352; Sakakibara, 1992, p 94 (reval.); McKamey, 1998, p 210 (cat.).
Phyllotropis subtecta Buckton, 1901, p 42 , pl III, Figure 7 (type-locality: Brazil, Para); Funkhouser, 1927, p 41 (cat.) (= M. arcuata [sic] De Geer); Metcalf and Wade, 1965, p 1239 (cat.) (= M.foliataarcuata De Geer View in CoL ); McKamey, 1998, p 210 (cat.) (= M. foliataarcuata De Geer View in CoL ), syn. nov.
This species, as the name suggests, has a black pronotum with a large and fusiform yellow band extended from above the humeral angles to the apex of posterior process.
Comparing the type specimen of M. fusifera Walker ( Figure 17, lectotype female, BMNH) with the illustration provided by Buckton (1901) to P. subtecta (pl III, Figure 7), we found that these two species are morphologically identical. Both typelocalities are also the same, therefore they are herein considered synonyms.
Material examined
