DISTRIBUTION — Papua New Guinea.

DIAGNOSIS —This new species is close to M. crassipes Szépligeti 1900 , but differs from it by the half-sclerotized 2-SR on fore wing, the longitudinal rugae on first tergite converging apico-medially, the fine and rather longitudinal sculpture on third tergite, the precoxal sulcus posteriorly narrowing (vs 2-SR unsclerotized, rugae on first tergite, longitudinal and not converging apically, third tergite finely and transversely sculptured, precoxal sulcus evenly wide, respectively, for M. crassipes ). It differs from the two other new species of Mesocentrus described here by the size of the body, the largely sclerotized vein 2-SR of fore wing and the antenna very long and thin. It differs from M. rutilus Papp, 2005 by the second tergite coarsely striate, the first tergite moderately broadening posteriorly and from the other species of this genus by its body bicolor.

DESCRIPTION (Holotype) — FEMALE: body length 3 mm, length of fore wing 2.5 mm. Head. Antennal segments 20, scapus 1.40x as long as broad, F1/F2 = 1.00, length of first and second flagellomeres 3.25x their width, penultimate flagellomere 2.50x its width; maxillary palp 1.10x height of head; ED/TD = 3.00; OOL:OD:POL = 4.00:1.50:2.00; occipital carina complete mid-dorsally; vertex irregularly rugose; frons rugose with numerous spaced setae, strongly impressed behind antennal socket; face straight in lateral view, WF/HF = 1.20, face granulate with weak transverse parallel rugae laterally; clypeus flat, rugous; gena largely smooth and punctate; MS/BM = 1.10; malar sulcus strong and curved; face with fine long setae. Mesosoma. HMS/LMS = 0.63; propleuron coriaceous, mat; side of pronotum shiny, largely and strongly crenulate medially, and posteriorly; epicnemial area largely rugose, two-third of mesopleuron smooth; precoxal sulcus complete, large, strongly and largely rugose-crenulate anteriorly; metapleuron rugose; mesoscutum setose with long fine setae; lobes of mesoscutum granulate; notauli strongly impressed anteriorly, ending in a large mid-posterior area with three longitudinal rugae; scutellar sulcus 5.00x wider than medially long, with several strong longitudinal carinae; scutellum granulate, mat, flat; propodeum fully irregularly rugose, mid-longitudinal carina absent. Legs. Fore tarsi shortened, fore femur ventrally flattened, 2.80x as long as large in lateral view; coxa smooth; length of femur, tibia and basitarsus of hind leg 3.75, 7.40 and 5.20x their width, respectively; length of hind tibial spurs 0.20 and 0.30x hind basitarsus; apex of hind tibia with a row of bristles. Wings. Fore wing: r:3-SR:SRl = 8.00:13.00:24.00; SR1 weakly curved; r straight and weakly oblique; pterostigma large and rather triangular; 1-SR+M weakly bent medially; 1-SR+M:2SR+M:2-SR = 21.00:4.00:8.00; basal half of vein 2-SR of fore wing sclerotized; CU1b absent; subdiscal cell present but open posteriorly. Hind wing: M+CU:1-M:1r-m = 16:21:6. Metasoma. LT1/WT1 = 1.37, first tergite with several longitudinal carinae reaching apex; laterope present and deep; second tergite coarsely longitudinally striate; third tergite with coarse longitudinal striae anteriorly, the lateral ones curved to the outer of tergite, third tergite apically shiny and smooth; remaining tergite smooth; second suture deep; length of ovipositor sheath 0.12x fore wing, acute apically. Color. Bicolor black-rufous; legs, palpus, sternites light-yellowish; head except posterior part and stemmaticum, pronotum, mesoscutum, tergites except the three first red-rufous; other part of body brown-castaneous; wing membrane weakly infuscate, subhyaline, pterostigma light except a large median dark patch.

VARIATIONS — The female paratypes are similar in color and body length, with number of antennal segments 19-20. The male paratypes are slightly smaller, with filiform antenna, number of antennal segments 16, metasoma more darkened, and tergites 3-4 with sculptures more impressed.
