Type material. Holotype: male, China, “A-tun-tse (N Yunnan), Aus Hohe ca. 3500 m. 7.vii.1937 (H. Höne)”; Genitalia prep. 2089; Paratypes: 3 males, same locality and collector, 18.vii.1936; 15.vii.12.vii. 13.vii.1937 (H. Höne); 5 males, China, “Batang (Tibet). Im Taldes Yangtze (ca. 2800 m), 8.vi, 13.vii, 4.vii, 14.vii, 11.vii.1936 (H. Höne)” [coll. ZFMK]. The type series, including the holotype, is in the collection of Zoological Institute and Museum Alexander Koenig ( ZFMK, Bonn, Germany).
Diagnosis. The new species differs from other examined congeners by its uniform dark-brown coloration of body and wings. It is closest to M. djakonovi , but differs by having a narrower valva, narrower and longer coecum, and a more rounded shape of the proximal extension of aedeagus.
Description. Adult ( Figs. 15, 16 View FIGURES 9 – 16 ). Wingspan: 21–22 mm. Head, thorax, abdomen and wings dark brown. All crosslines waved, dark-brown, much darker than background. All lines marked in costal area as blackbrown streaks; basal line distinct in costal area, antemedial line waved; medial line broken in separated spots; postmedial line waved, broken; submarginal line with wide brownish-grey border on inner side; subterminal field with waved rufous-brown band; orbicular spot dark-brown; reniform spot brown with dark-brown border; terminal field grey-brown; terminal line as row of short dark transversal streaks separated by paler dots; cilia brown, waved. Male genitalia ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 29 – 32 ). Valva wide, with almost parallel dorsal and ventral margins, oblique and rounded apically; ventral margin of valva deeply constricted medially; sacculus with additional sclerotised medial bar; aedeagus with long coecum; proximal extension of aedeagus rather short, oval. According to the male genitalia, M. hoenei is closest to M. djakonovi . Female unknown.
