Material
H : female, Papua New Guinea, Awar bush, 21 June 1982 (P. Grootaert — st. 1409—3-139) ( UMZC).
Etymology Named after the collector Dr P. Grootaert.
Diagnosis
Abdominal tergite 5 with a semicircular anterior flap that is wider than long; T 4 wider than long; posterior part of T 5 strongly tapered; anterior margin of T 10, between the apodemes, largely comprising a median pointed subtriangular process; antial and pre-ocellar bristles present between four supra-antennal bristles and three ocelli.
Female
Frons brown. A pair of ocellars and a pair of bristles each side on vertex. Third antennal segment pale yellowish brown, seemingly lacking SPS vesicles, and with long-haired arista. Palp even paler, with five bristles and about 3× as many hairs. Broad brownish yellow labrum. Pale yellow labella with teeth on inner faces. Thorax brown but paler on lower parts of pleural regions. Humeral bristles not differentiated and with three bristles on notopleuron. Scutellum with an anterior pair of fine hairs and a posterior pair of bristles. Abdominal tergites brown and with minute hairs. T 2– T 4 clearly wider than long, and T 4– T 6 as figure 52C. Venter greyish brown with narrow pale intersegmental bands. Numerous hairs below segments 3–6, on rest of 6 and in a single row at rear of rest of 5. Cerci whitish yellow, lightly tinged grey, about twice as long as broad, and with longest hair slightly longer than cercus. Furca is a pale yellowish hoop. Legs pale yellow lightly tinged brown, but with mid and hind coxae and hind femur pale brown. Front basitarsus not inflated, only segments 1–3 with posterodorsal hair palisade, and segment 5 a little longer than 4. Microsculpture of posterior face of hind femur faint and comprisng irregular parallelograms and polygons. Hind basitarsus with only four transverse combs and three apical setae. Wing 0.8–0.9 mm long. Costal index 0.55. Costal ratios 0.63:1. Costal cilia 0.03 mm long. Costa at most as wide as vein 3. Veins yellowish brown, but 7 obscure. Membrane only very slightly tinged grey. Haltere brown.
