14. Millettia sericea (Vent.) Hasskarl (1844: 283) View in CoL .
≡ Pongamia sericea Ventenat (1803 View in CoL : t. 28).
Type: — INDONESIA. Java, Voyage à la recherche de la Pérouse, sous le commandement de d’Entrecassteaux, Septermber 1794 to May 1797, F. de Lahaie 2185 (lectotype designated here: P02753433 image!; isolectotype: P02753436 image!) .
= Millettia argentea Miquel (1855: 156) View in CoL . Type: — INDONESIA. Java, Zippelius s.n. (holotype: L0064647 image!).
= Millettia turgida Miquel (1861: 300) View in CoL . Type: — INDONESIA. “ Sumatra occid. in prov. Priaman”, Diepenhorst HB695 (holotype: U0003570 image!).
After Pongamia sericea was published by Ventenat (1803) using material collected by F. de Lahaie from Java, its type was not checked by many authors (e.g. Dunn 1912, Adema 2000, Lôc & Vidal 2001). We examined two specimens in P, both of which matched Ventenat’s diagnosis, and designate one of them (P02753433) as the lectotype of the name. This species is easily recognized by its growth habit of woody climber, 5–9 leaflets with silvery lower surfaces, absence of stipels, distinct brachyblasts with 4–8 flowers per brachyblast, a standard petal with silky hairs outside, and very thick pods with dense brown hairs outside.
