Mixtopagurus rigidus Yokoya, 1933: 71 , fig. 31 [type locality: syntypes came from five stations in Japanese waters: S of Omaezaki, Shizuoka Prefecture, 196 m; W of Tanegashima Island, 203 m; Bungo Strait, 190 m; E of Tanegashima Island, 219 m; near Koshiki Islands, 300 m].

BIOPAPUA, stn CP 3693, SE of Manus Island, 02°10’S, 147°17’E, 300 m, 1 male (sl 4.0 mm), MNHN-IU-2011-2634; same data, 1 ovigerous female (damaged, not measured), MNHN-IU-2011-1634; stn DW 3732, off Lancasay Island, 08°16’S, 150°29’E, 340–358 m, 9 October 2010, 1 male (sl 4.1 mm), 1 ovigerous female (sl 4.6 mm), MNHN-IU-2011-1039; DW 3734, off Lancasay Island, 08°16’S, 150°30’E, 389 m, 9 October 2010, 1 male (sl 3.5 mm), MNHN-IU-2011-930.

PAPUA NIUGINI, stn CP 4016, E of Umboi Island, Solomon Sea, 05°40’S, 148°14’E, 280–285 m, 12 December 2012, 1 female (sl 4.8 mm), MNHN-IU-2013-14442.

Description. See Forest (1987a: 51) and McLaughlin & Lemaitre (2009: 179).

Size. Largest male sl 4.1 mm, largest female sl 4.8 mm, ovigerous female sl 4.6 mm.

Distribution. Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Australia, New Zealand; 100–700 m (McLaughlin & Lemaitre 2009).

Habitat. Cavities in pumice rock (Miyake 1982; Forest 1987; McLaughlin & Lemaitre 2009; this study)
