Note. Previous authors have treated dubiosa as a subspecies ( Hacker & Peks 1990; Ronkay et al. 2001) or a synonym (Hacker 1990) of M. lama . Study of the type material demonstrates its specific status.
Diagnosis. Wingspan 37–40 mm. Head, thorax and abdomen brown. Ground colour of forewing brown. Outer margin of reniform dentate. Medial area shadowed around claviform and medial fascia. Terminal area dark brown. Hindwing pale brown. This species is externally close to M. juldussica , but differs in the less dentate submarginal line, darker and more monotonous colouration of forewing and less expressed pattern. The correct determination of pale or damaged specimens often requires the study of the genitalia. The male genitalia of M. dubiosa ( Figs 81, 82 View FIGURES 81 – 86 , 95 View FIGURES 87 – 96 ) differ clearly from those of M. juldussica in the narrower juxta with shorter serrated parts of its apical processes (in M. juldussica distal half, but in M. dubiosa only distal third serrate), narrower clavus strongly protruding from surface of sacculus, shorter ampulla, more rounded and apically elongated cucullus, obtuse and strongly dentate apical part of carina, shorter and less sclerotised eversible dorso-lateral bar of carina arising from the apical part of carina, and larger band of spinules on terminal diverticulum. The female genitalia ( Figs 117, 118 View FIGURES 113 – 120 ) differ in the narrower ostium bursae, narrower and less curved ductus bursae, weakly sclerotised appendix bursae and posterior part of corpus bursae, larger conical anterior projection of anterior part of corpus bursae and smaller signum.
Distribution. Central Asian. East (Saur and Tarbagatai Mts) and South-East Kazakhstan, Tien Shan massif, Pamir and Alai Mts, nortwestern China (Xinjiang).
