Monodiamesa Kieffer, 1922 View in CoL
We collected three species of Monodiamesa from Alaska, Monodiamesa bathyphila (Kieffer, 1918) , Monodiamesa prolilobata Saether, 1973 and Monodiamesa tuberculata Saether, 1973 , the latter two being new faunistic records for the state. Hershey (1985) reported collecting around 200 larvae and one adult male of M. bathyphila from Toolik Lake in late July. She found larvae of this species in soft sediments at a depth range of 3.5–5.0 m and determined that they have at least a three-year life cycle. We collected two males, a female, and pharate pupae of M. prolilobata in a drift net sample in the Yukon River delta area in early July. We collected larvae and pupae of M. tuberculata in late June in the distributaries of the Yukon River in the Yukon River delta. We also collected M. tuberculata from Swan Lake on Revillagigedo Island. Saether (1973) describes the habitat of Monodiamesa larvae as littoral and sublittoral areas with most species preferring sandy areas.
