Differt a speciebus caeteris Monotagmatis mesocarpio unistratoso, cellulis parietibus tenuibus, et arillo tubulari.
Type: Monotagma smaragdinum (Linden & André) K.Schum.
Pericarp with 1-layered mesocarp. Seed narrowly cylindrical to narrowly pyramidal; aril tubular without lobes or with two string-shaped straight lobes.
Discussion:— Monotagma sect. Tubularia comprises 17 species. It is characterized by having fruits with a one-layered mesocarp with unsclerified cells, and tubular arils with laterally united lobes. These features are apomorphic for this section ( Hagberg 1990b).
