Material studied. Holotype. ♂. MYANMAR, N.E. Burma, Kambaiti, 2000 m, 4.VI. 1934, Malaise (in MZH).

Description. ♂. Head. Palp brownish, other mouthparts yellow, face yellowish, posterior parts of head brownish. Antenna brownish, scape, pedicel and base of 1st flagellomere yellow. Length of 1st flagellomere about 4x, 2nd flagellomere 2.5x, its width. Thorax. Pronotum yellow, with 3 long setae. Scutum yellowish to brownish with indistinct longitudinal stripes. Anepisternum and preepisternum light brownish. Scutellum brownish, with 4 long setae. Laterotergite brownish. Mediotergite brownish, bare. Wing. Length 3.8 mm. Wing hyaline. Sc ending in R1 near or slightly proximad of middle of small cell, Sc1 missing. Apical part of Sc bearing 4–7 small setae. Small cell slightly longer than its width. Cu fork distal to M fork. M ratios: 0.87, 1.11. Cu ratios: 1.00, 1.56. Small setae: M petiole: 0; M1: 0; M2: 0; Cu petiole: 0; Cu1: 0; Cu2: 0. Halter pale yellowish. Legs. Coxae and femora yellow, tibiae and tarsi brownish to brown. Coxa 2 without spur. Leg ratios: bt1:t1 =?, bt2:t2 =?, bt3:t3 = 0.58. Abdomen. Tergites brownish, sternites slightly paler. Hypopygium. Figs. 7 View FIGURE 7 A–D: yellowish. Tergal part with two pairs of combs. Outer tergal combs relatively close to each other each other, both with about 10 setae. Tergal lateral appendage long, slender, at least 6x as long as its narrowest part, apically slightly wider, with some flattened curved subapical setae along median side, and long, non-flattened apical setae, one of them very long, about as long as lateral appendage ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C). Sternal submedian filament long, curved, extending far beyond apex of aedeagus. Gonostylus more than 4x as long as wide, slightly curved, with 3 subapical teeth and 1 longer seta, middle part with strong, short spur and small membranous lobe about 1/3 of length of gonostylus ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 D). Aedeagus with 2 slender, curved lobes extending slightly beyond its apex.

Discussion. Mycomya banteng readily differs from the other species of the subgenus Mycomyopsis in the long, narrow shape of the tergal lateral appendage and its extremely long apical setae ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C). Its gonostylus has also a distinct spur and a very small membranous lobe ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 D) unlike most species of the subgenus.

Etymology. The species name is a noun in apposition and refers to the banteng , the wild ox of Burma.
