5.2.8. Myrcia obtusata (O.Berg) M.F.Santos , comb. nov. Aulomyrcia obtusata O. Berg (1855 –1856: 39). Type:— GUYANA. Roraima ( Brazil?), 1843, Robert H. Schomburgk 704 (lectotype W [image!], designated here; isolectotypes B [destroyed], K [image!]). Remaining syntypes:— GUYANA. Roraima ( Brazil?), 1843, Robert H. Schomburgk 1085 (B [destroyed], MEL [image!], K [image!]).
Myrcia obtusata is a poorly known species, occurring in Guyana and/or the Roraima state of Brazil (according to the type label). Features such as the inflorescence with subopposite branching and persistent bracts, the hypanthium prolonged above the top of the ovary, the glabrous receptacle and bilocular ovary suggest affinity with Myrcia sect. Aulomyrcia . The species resembles Myrcia inaequiloba ( De Candolle 1828: 282) Lemée (1954: 150) View in CoL .
We choose the specimen collected by Robert H. Schomburgk View in CoL as lectotype, as it bears the handwriting of Otto Berg who originally described the species.
