Recently Werner and Oesterle (2000) reviewed its status and re-established M. vicina as a good species. Known mainly from western and northern-central territories of Africa, and reaching Tanzania. The adults can be found in open habitats (e.g. savannahs), occurring frequently in Guinea-Bissau with L. luxerii .
