Taxonomy. Accordingtothemalegenitalia, N. octogesima and N. laoana spp. n. representadistinctlineage.

Description. Wingspan 21–24 mm, lengthofforewing 11–12 mm. Antennaefiliform, ciliate, inmaleciliaarrangedintofourtransversearrays, lengthofciliatwicediameterof flagellum; infemaleoneciliumpersegment, shorterthandiameterofflagellum. Length oflabialpalps 2.5 timesthediameterofeyeinmale, threetimesinfemale, inbothsexes tipnotlight, dorsalscaleslong, dorsaledgestronglyconvex. Scale-hoodofvertexbroadbased, relativelylong, itstipbifurcate. Profemoraand – tibiaeinmaleslightlythickened, hairy. Characteristicwingpatternfeatures: costanotconcaveinmale; groundcolourgreyishbrowninmale, darkerinfemale; subterminallinegreyishwithtwoprojectionsinwards inmale, moresinuousinfemale; postmediallineparalleltothesubterminalbutslightly moresinuouswithanangulationinwardsnearlytouchingreniformspotinmale; medial linebroad, dark; antemediallinepresent; reniformstigmabig, paleyellow, 8-shaped, with greyishdotsinthetopandbottomhalves, orbicularstigmarelativelybig, paleyellow. Hindwingslightlypalerthanforewing, withthreetransverselines, basalonebroaderand moreprominentinmale.

Malegenitalia ( Fig. 1 View Figs 1–6 ). Uncusrelativelylong, curved, bulgedventrallyatbasalhalf, itstippointed. Scaphiumaslongasuncus; tegumenlongerthanvinculum, thelatterbeingverystrong. Saccusbroad-based, long, wide, itstiprounded. Baseoftranstillavery broad. Shapeofjuxtalikeashieldorcoat- of-arms, withasmallnotchatitsventro- medial edge. Valvabroad-based, abruptlytapering. Cucullusfreeonlyatitstip, verynarrow. Sacculusverywell- developed, basallynarrow, distallydilated, itsdistalendtwicebroader thanbase. Harpearelativelybroad-basedprocess, itstiprounded, itsbasefusedwiththe ventro- lateralcornerofthesacculus. Costaheavilydeveloped, endinginlong, bifurcate process, ventralextensioncurvedventrallybeyondtheharpe, dorsalextensiontongueshaped. Aedeagusstraight, verythickandshort; vesicaglobular, twicelongerthanaedeagus, itsdistalthirdampleandscobinate, withanultimatelylong, strongcornutusemergingclosetocarina, being 2.5 timeslongerthanaedeagus.

Femalegenitalia ( Fig. 13 View Figs 13–18 ). Ovipositorlobesrectangular. Apophysesquitebroad; apophysesposterioresca 1.4 timeslongerthanapophysesanteriores. LobesofsternumA7 rounded. Basalhalfofsinusverynarrow, itsposteriorpartbroad. SternumA7 withlarge, rounded, broad-based, sclerotisedplate. Ductusbursaebroadandveryshort, strongly sclerotised, connectedtocorpusbursaeratherproximallyatdorsalside; withrathertubular, heavilysclerotised, terminallyslightlycurvedanteriorpocket. Corpusbursaeglobular, denselyscobinate; appendixbursaeshortlyconical.

Diagnosis. Theclosestrelativeofthisnewspeciesis N. laoana sp. n. The differentialexternalmorphologicalfeaturesof N. octogesima areasfollows: the ground-colourofwingsisdarkerin N. octogesima thanin N. laoana , thebasal areaofwingsislessochreoussuffused, the 8-shapedreniformstigmaismore prominent, moredistinctlypaleyellow, andtheorbicularstigmaisalsomore conspicuous. Inthemalegenitalia, theventralprocessofvinculumisstronger, thickerin N. octogesima , thedorsaledgeofcostaisslightlycurved, thesubapicalneckisconsiderablythinner, andthebifurcateprocessissmallerwith shorterextensions. Thehugecornutusintheaedeagusisslightlylongerthan in N. laoana , itsdistalhalfsinuousandtaperingintoacutetip (notbifurcate asin N. laoana ); andthevesicahaslargedistalscobinateareaincontrastto N. laoana . Inthefemalegenitaliatheductusbursaeismuchbroader, thecorpus bursaeismorespherical, itssurfaceismorescobinate, andtheappendixof ductusbursaeislongerthanthoseof N. laoana .

Themalegenitaliaof N. octogesima aresomewhatsimilartothoseof N. abnormalis (Hampson, 1912) , buttheuncusandthescaphiumarenarrower, longerandmorecurvedinthenewspecies, thenotchofthejuxtaissmaller, thesaccusismuchmoreelongate, thecostaismuchmoredeveloped, thedistalpartofsacculusismuchbroader, buttheharpeissmallerthanin N. abnormalis . Thetwospeciesareratherdissimilarexternallyas N. octogesima is considerablylargerinsize, havingconvexcostaofthemaleforewing, much strongercrosslinesonbothwings, conspicuouslargeandyellowreniform stigma, andthehindwingismuchdarkerthanin N. abnormalis .

Etymology. Thespecificnamereferstotheunique 8-shapedreniformstigma.
