Neobarombiella naumanni sp. n.
( Figs 109, 169–172)
Etymology. Dedicated to the late Clas M. Naumann, for his infectious enthusiasm in entomology.
Total length. 4.50–6.45 mm (mean: 5.24 mm) (n=23).
Head. Frons and vertex brownish-yellow, labrum yellow and rarely reddish-brown (10% of specimens examined), labial and maxillary palpi brown. Antenna slender, yellow, apical antennomere darker ( Fig. 169), length of second to third antennomere 0.62–0.70 (mean: 0.65), and length of third to fourth antennomere 0.55–0.62 (mean: 0.58) ( Fig. 171). Eyes large with long interocular distance ( Fig. 169), and width of eye to interocular distance 0.50–0.57 (mean: 0.53).
Thorax. Pronotum reddish-yellow to entirely yellow; pronotal width 1.52–2.24 mm (mean: 1.86 mm), pronotal length 0.78–1.16 mm (mean: 0.95 mm), and pronotal length to width 0.46–0.55 (mean: 0.51). Elytron reddish-brown, distinctly darker than pronotum and darker reddish-brown basally, with superficial punctuation; elytral length 3.45–5.00 mm (mean: 4.08 mm), elytral width 2.10–3.30 mm (mean: 2.73 mm), and maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.65–0.71 (mean: 0.67) ( Fig. 169). Meso- and metathorax reddish-brown, legs reddish-brown or entirely brown; length of basi-metatarsus to metatibia 0.49–0.54 (mean: 0.51).
Abdomen. Reddish-brown.
Male genitalia. Median lobe long and slender, apex with small, V-shaped incision in ventral view ( Fig. 170a); apical section poorly sclerotized, lacking any ridges or spines, and dorso-ventrally compressed in lateral view; endophallic brush protrudes slightly.
Diagnosis. Neobarombiella naumanni sp. n. is characterized the contrasting colouring of the darker reddishbrown elytron and the yellowish pronotum. Two of the species that occur sympatrically are N. spielbergi sp. n. and N. frontalis sp. n., but both differ in colouring, since the former is entirely yellow, whilst the latter has black sutural margins and a black spot on the vertex ( Figs 153, 169, 185). Neobarombiella . flavicollis also has a sympatric distribution, but is distinguishable by a dark humeral spot, darker pronotum, and larger third antennomere, length of third to fourth antennomere 0.67–0.75 (0.55–0.62 in N. naumanni sp. n.) ( Figs 82, 84, 169, 171).
Distribution. Recorded from the Guineo-Congolian forest region, from Nigeria in the west to the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo ( Fig. 109).
