Neptosternus maculatus Hendrich & Balke, 1997 View in CoL

(Fig. 8)

Neptosternus maculatus Hendrich & Balke, 1997: 62 View in CoL (original description; Vietnam).

Material examined. 1Ƥ, China, Guangdong Province, Ruyuan County, Longxi, 9.x.1964, Zhenyao Chen leg. ( SYSU).

Notes. This single female from Guangdong province agrees well with N. maculatus . The measurements of the specimen are: TL: 2.9 mm, TL-h: 2.6 mm, TW: 1.7 mm, and therefore fall within the size variability of N. maculatus (TL: 2.5–2.9 mm, TL-h: 2.3–2.6 mm), rather than that of the slightly larger N. siamensis Hendrich & Balke, 1997 (TL: 3.1–3.3 mm, TL-h: 2.8–3.0 mm) described from northern Thailand (Hendrich & Balke 1997). As the only reliable character – the shape of the median lobe of aedeagus – cannot be studied, we tentatively assign the specimen to N. maculatus .

Distribution. The species was described from, and formerly only known from, southern Vietnam. Additional records from Laos (J. Hájek, unpublished data). First record from China (Guangdong).
