ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 439.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island , Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421) .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Steyskal 1977b: 30).
REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 439) described Nothybus longithorax , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being three specimens in the type series found in this study, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Rondani did not select a holotype in his original description. Guiglia (1957: 195) reported “ Tipo e 1 cotipo (esemplare senza capo) [Type and 1 cotype (specimen missing its head)]” in the MSNG. Raineri & Rey (1996: 44) also considered the MSNG specimens as “Typus, 1 Cotypus [Type, 1 Cotype]”. Guiglia (1957: 195) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 44) did not unambiguously indicate the type, therefore they did not designate a lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.6). Neither Guiglia nor Raineri & Rey mentioned the MZUF male. The two MSNG males and the MZUF male are all syntypes.
