Type:— MEXICO. [Veracruz:] Xalapa [“ Jalappa ”], ex hort., s.d., C. A. A. von Hügel s.n. (lost). Neotype (designated by Salazar Chávez 1994: 176):— MEXICO. [Veracruz:] ca. 3 km from Lano Grande to Teocelo , 26 January 1991, G. A. Salazar Chávez et al. 5014 ( AMO 26891 About AMO !).
Notes: —Fenzl (1850) described N. huegelii based on a living specimen collected and cultivated by Hügel. The protologue has no illustration of the specimen and no original material used by the author has been found (apparently not preserved). Salazar Chávez (1994) chose a sample collected near the type locality that most corresponded to the original description as a neotype.
