Range: —Western Colombia; Bolivia (BE, LP).
Ecology: —Rare; epiphytic and on cliff faces along roadsides, in humid forests; 950 m.
Notes: —We apply this name to two small, sterile collections (Fay & Fay 2761, MO, LPB; Tate 1152, NY) of a species bearing small reddish, catenate hairs that are partly lost with age. Oleandra zapatana differs from most closely related O. articulata in the densely pilose stipe apex and midrib abaxially, with hairs 0.5–2 mm long; the lamina abaxially, near the midrib, may also be sparsely pilose. While we doubt that the Bolivian specimens are conspecific with Colombian O. zapatana , the indument is similar; pending collection of better specimens, as well as a thorough taxonomic treatment of the genus Oleandra in the New World, we keep the Bolivian plant under this name.
