Distribution. Arabian Peninsula: Saudi Arabia (d’Orbigny 1898a), Yemen ( Ziani & Bezděk 2016). North Africa: Egypt ( Alfieri 1976). Africa: Eritrea, Mauritania, Sudan (d’Orbigny 1913), Niger (d’Orbigny 1911), Senegal (d’Orbigny, 1902), South Sahara ( Zunino 1975).
Remarks. According to Zunino (1975) O. margaritifer is phylogenetically close to Onthophagus nitidulus Klug, 1856 and O. sellatus Klug, 1845 .
