REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 155) described Oplisa mendica without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material he had collected and also received from F.M. Piccioli, L. Erra, L. Bellardi and G. Mussino. Pape (1989: 357) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (5 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional five specimens: one male and one female in the MZUF, one male and one female in the MSNC and one male in the OUMNH (all are paralectotypes).
