TYPE: Male holotype: Tanzania, Mkomazi Game Reserve, tropical savanna, canopy, -4.50000°, 38.00000°, Jan. 10, 1996, McGavin G.C. ( OUMNH PBI _OON 33876) .

ETYMOLOGY: The ventral pattern of the female genitalia resembles a light bulb; the Latin “ampulla” (bottle) is the nearest equivalent we could find; it is a noun in apposition.

DIAGNOSIS: Males of O. ampulla can be recognized by the wide clypeus, rectangular in dorsal view ( Fig. 38), the proximally strongly enlarged bulbus ( Fig. 43, 45, 54) and the endites with the distal tip a short outward-curving hook ( Fig. 52). Females can be recognized by the combination of abdomen with a short extension ( Fig. 42) and the genital area resembling a light bulb, as seen through the cuticle ( Fig. 48).

MALE (PBI_OON_0033876, Figs. 38, 40, 41, 43–45, 50–56). Total length 0.90. CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace ( Figs. 38, 41) yellowish white, elongate oval in dorsal view (CW/CL ≈ 0.72), pars cephalica slightly elevated in lateral view, anteriorly narrowed to between 0.5 and 0.75 times its maximum width; Clypeus sloping forward in lateral view. Eyes ALE-PME touching, PME circular; PLE-PME separated by less than PME radius. Sternum as long as wide, yellowish white, uniform, anterior margin with semicircular depression in the middle half, posterior margin extending posteriorly beyond anterior edges of coxae IV as single extension; setae abundant, evenly scattered. Mouthparts ( Figs. 40, 50–52): Chelicerae, endites and labium yellowish white. Chelicerae straight. Labium rounded, with anterior margin not indented at middle, same as sternum in sclerotization; with 6 or more setae on anterior margin, anteriorly with three subdistal setae, medially with one pair of setae and posteriorly with one seta. Endites serrula present in single row, same as sternum in sclerotization, bifid, one prong with sclerotized tip, provided with flattened, pectinate setae; anteromedian sclerotized tip with sharp, hook-like projection pointing forward; base part with diagonal furrow. ABDOMEN ( Figs. 38, 41): ovoid; dorsum soft portions pale white, without color pattern. Book lung covers small, round. LEGS: white, patella plus tibia I shorter than carapace (TL/CL ≈ 0.75). GENITALIA: Palp ( Figs. 40, 43–45, 54–56) proximal segments yellow; tibia one to two times as wide as femora, swollen at base; cymbium yellow; bulb yellow, stout, asymmetric, pear shaped in lateral view, with ventral side strongly protruding proximally; embolus dark, strong, short, at angle of about 120° with longitudinal axis of bulbus, tapering apically, with circular opening at tip.

FEMALE (PBI_OON_0033877, Figs. 39, 42, 46–49). As in male except as noted. Total length 1.36. CEPHA- LOTHORAX: Carapace ( Figs. 39, 42) pars cephalica strongly elevated in lateral view. Sternum anterior margin unmodified. Labium rounded. ABDOMEN: with long posterior extension, pointed posteriorly. GENITALIA ( Figs. 46–49): in ventral view the genitalia resemble a light bulb; AUS stout, rounded, strongly sclerotized, with outward curving subterminal apodemes (Pr); ARe rounded, transparent, slightly longer than AUS; Pp present; PRe not examined.

DISTRIBUTION: Known from the Mkomazi Game Reserve and Tanga Kwamgumi Forest Reserve in northern Tanzania, and from the Iringa Uzungwa Scarp Forest Reserve in central Tanzania ( Fig. 607).
