Osbornellus ligatus Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs. 24a–24e)
Description. Length: 5.8 mm. Member of the O. auronitens group ( Fig. 1a). General description as in O. eberhardi .
Male genitalia: Pygofer less than twice as long as wide, moderately projected posteriorly, narrow and rounded; with long macrosetae dispersed along apical half of pygofer ( Fig. 24a). Valve triangular. Plates very long, apex pointed, with few filamentous setae ( Fig. 24b). Style with long apophysis ( Fig. 24c). Aedeagus in ventral view with base slightly narrow; shaft straight, slender, apex truncate, shorter than ventral processes ( Fig. 24d). Ventral processes arising near base of aedeagus, straight, apices tapered at tip; dorsal projection narrow, pointed, curved caudad. Gonopore apical. In lateral ventral view processes with apices pointed, close to shaft, slightly separated at apices, curved dorsad ( Fig. 24e).
Diagnosis. Very similar to O. seudopuniceus , but in lateral view the vental processes of O. ligatus arise very close to shaft, slightly separated at apices, and curved dorsad. In O. seudopuniceus the ventral processes are separated from the shaft and curved caudad.
Distribution. Known only from Costa Rica; 1850 m
Etymology. This species is named for the close proximity of the shaft and ventral processes in lateral view.
