Pachyschelus confusus Wellso and Manley, 1976:19 View in CoL

I have been unable to distinguish these two small black species consistently. In their original description Wellso and Manley (1976) refer to differences in the male genitalia and give the host of P. laevigatus as Desmodium spp. and that of P. confusus as Lespedeza sp. , although apparently the records of the latter were only from collections of adults and not from rearings. The status of these names, the extent of intraspecific variability, larval hosts, and distributions invite further study. Small black Pachyschelus are abundant throughout eastern North America, and I have reared them from Desmodium sp. in Connecticut. MacRae (1991) reports rearing a specimen with the genitalia of P. laevigatus from Lespedeza sp. in Missouri.
