Panzeria truncata (Zetterstedt)

Tachina truncata Zetterstedt, 1838: 642 . Syntypes, males and females (MZLU and/or NHRS, not examined). Type localities: Sweden: Norrbotten (Kengis), Torne Lappmark (Vittangi [as “Wittangi”]), Lysksele Lappmark (Lydksele), Västerbotten (Basturräsk [as “Badstutraesk”]), Dalarna [as “Dalekarlia”], and Västergötland [as “Westrogothia”].

Diagnosis. This species is distinct in having a rather thickened arista with elongate 2nd aristomere, short antenna and wing vein M with a short appendage at the bend. Zimin (1957: 507) illustrated the male and female terminalia. The female terminalia illustrated by him ( Zimin 1957: 507, fig. 5) look rather different, because the 7th abdominal tergite (as T 8 in the illustration) looks as large as the 6th tergite (as T6+8) and covers the apex of the abdomen.

Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido); China (Hebei); British Is., Scandinavia, E. and W. Europe, Russia (W. Russia, W. Siberia, S. Far East).

Remarks. Although Mesnil & Pschron-Walcher (1968: 164) recorded this species (as Appendicia ) from Obihiro, Hokkaido (collected in 1949), Mesnil (1972a, 1972b), Herting (1984), O’Hara et al. (2009) and Shima (2014) overlooked this record. I have not seen this species in Japan, and it must be very rare in this country.
