Remarks. Lang (1966) transferred A. algicola to P arapseudes Sars, 1882 and synonymized this species and other congeners reported from various regions (e.g., Mediterranean, North and South Atlantic, and North Pacific) with Parapseudes latifrons ( Grube, 1864) that was described from the island of Lošinj in the Adriatic Sea. Larsen & Shimomura (2008) questioned the validity of Lang’s (1966) synonymising and stated that “such cosmopolitan distribution is unlikely for a single species and closer examination of the literature also suggests that differences are present between several of the species” (op. cit.: 9), but they refrained from reinstating Shiino’s species. It was formally reinstated as a valid species by Guţu (2008b).
