Parastrangalis shennongjiaensis sp. nov.

Description. Male ( Figs 1–2 View FIGURES 1–4 ): Body length 9.19–9.98 mm (measured from vertex to apex of abdomen), humeral width 2.45–2.83 mm (measured across humeri).
Body mostly pale reddish brown. Head blackish brown, with pale pubescence, except for maxilla, reddish brown. Antennae pale reddish brown. Pronotum blackish brown, with dense recumbent reddish brown pubescence, denser at posterior angles. Scutellum blackish brown. Elytra reddish brown, with an indistinctively black ellipse at central basal 1/5, slightly darker than legs and antennae. Ventral side of pro-, meso- and metasternum blackish brown, with yellowish brown pubescence, relatively darker at central part and denser at lateral parts. Abdominal ventrites reddish brown. Legs mostly reddish brown, except for trochanter and apical half of metafemora blackish brown.
Head narrower than base of pronotum, finely punctured, with a narrow median longitudinal furrow between eyes; eyes well developed, convex, finely facetted, eye diameter longer than genea. Antennae hardly exceed the elytral apices; scape shorter than antennomere III, antennomere Ⅴ longer than III, remaining antennomeres gradually decreasing in length, antennomere XI slightly arcuate, slightly shorter than VI and slightly longer than VII.
Pronotum campaniform, distinctly constricted at apex, slightly swollen above, apical margin remarkably narrower than basal margin, about 0.49–0.53 times as wide as basal width, disc slightly convex, hind angles triangularly produced in dorsal view and uncovering elytral humeri, disc densely and finely punctured. Scutellum triangle.
Elytra long and slender, about 2.60–2.70 times as long as humeral width, dehiscent from apical 1/10, apex slightly obliquely truncate, disc densely and finely punctured, each elytron with two inconspicuously longitudinal lines.
Ventral surface sparsely, finely punctured. Legs long and slender, femora slightly clavate, metafemora almost reaching posterior margin of fourth abdominal segment. First metatarsal segment obviously longer than following two segments combined, about 1.38–1.53 times as long as following two segments combined.
Male terminalia ( Figs 7–12 View FIGURES 5–10 View FIGURES 11–18 ). Tergite VIII ligulate, convex round apically, about 1.30 times as long as width, sparsely covered with short brown setae laterally and apically, slightly long and dense at middle; spiculum gastrale almost as long as ringed part of tegmen; spiculum relictum slightly shorter than a half of spiculum gastrale; paramere moderately long, about 1.60 times as long as width, covered with a few light brown long setae, with longer and denser setae apically; median lobe moderately curved in lateral view, slightly longer than tegmen; median struts about 0.67 times as long as median lobe, apex of ventral plate tapered.
Female ( Figs 3–4 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Similar to male. Length 9.70–9.80 mm, width 2.72–2.76 mm. Antennae about 0.93–1.03 times as long as body, hardly surpassing elytral apices; scape shorter than antennomere III, antennomere Ⅴ longer than III, remaining antennomeres gradually decreasing in length. Basal margin of pronotum obviously broader than apical margin, about 1.88–2.05 times as wide as apical width; elytra about 2.57–2.60 times as long as width at humeri. Apical 1/3 of metafemora less darkish brown; and metafemora reaching the middle of fourth abdominal segment.
Remarks. This new species superficially resembles P. maridae Tichý & Viktora, 2017 (type locality: China, Hubei, Shennongjia) on account of the similar integral color. However, it can be readily distinguished from the latter by the combination of the following characters: antennae entirely reddish brown, hardly surpassing elytral apices; pronotum more arching at margin of the middle, and the base relatively more constricted, about 0.49–0.53 times as wide as apical width; elytra less elongate, about 2.60–2.70 times as long as humeral width. While in P. maridae antennae of antennomeres IX–Ⅹ as well as XI at base significantly lightened, and it exceed elytral apices by one and half apical antennomeres; pronotum flatter at the middle of margin and the base about 0.67 times as wide as apical width; elytra slightly narrower, about 2.90 times as long as humeral width.

Distribution. China, Hubei (Shennongjia). Habitat. The specimens were collected on white flowers of the tall arbor Bothrocaryum controversum (Hemsl.)
Pojark. and Swida macrophylla (Wall.) Soják in a sparsely forested and bushy area in Shennongjia Forestry District,
Hubei. Etymology. The new species is named after the type locality, Shennongjia .
