Diagnosis. Rostrum acute and directed upwards, reaches the end of antennular peduncle and scaphocerite, dorsal margin with 7 or 8 teeth, first two placed behind orbit, ventral margin with 2 or 3 teeth in distal part. Basal segment of antennular peduncle with stylocerite slender not reaches the half this segment. Scaphocerite with distal tooth not reaches the apex of lamella. Carapace with hepatic and antennal spines. Mandible without palp. First pereopods overreaching the scaphocerite with part of fingers, fingers longer than palm. Second pereopods unequal in shape and size. Major pereopod overreaching the scaphocerite with part of carpus, cutting edge of dactylus with 2 teeth and fixed finger with a tooth placed between teeth of dactylus. Minor pereopod overreaching the scaphocerite with chela, finger unarmed and smaller than palm. Third to fifth pereopods with bifid dactyli. Abdomen with all pleura rounded, pleura of third somite with a pronounced hump dorsal. Telson with 2 pairs of dorsal spines and 3 pairs of spines on posterior margin.
Distribution. Western Atlantic: USA (Florida), Cuba (Batabanó Gulf), Mexico (Yucatan and Baia de La Ascención), Honduras (Cayo Cochino) Barbuda, Antigua, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, Virgins Islands, Colombia [Cabo De La Vela], Venezuela (La Pecha Island), Brazil (Bahia and Espírito Santo) ( Figure 16 View FIGURE 16 ) ( Holthuis, 1951; Chace, 1972; Abele & Kim, 1986; Martínez-Iglesias & Garcia Raso, 1999; Tagliafico et al., 2005; Coelho et al., 2006; Wirtz et al., 2009 and Román-Contreras & Martínez-Mayén, 2010).
Material examined. ESPÍRITO SANTO. Marataízes, Ilha dos Franceses, 1 female, (MZUSP-12919).
Ecological notes. The species occurs at depths between 3 and 55 m, associated with sea anemones Bartholomea annulata , Condylactis gigantea , Labrunia danae , Epicystis sp., benthic medusa Cassiopea xamachana and calcareous algae ( Chace, 1972; Ramos-Porto & Coelho, 1990; Tagliafico et al., 2005; Wirtz et al., 2009).
