Type:—[fossil leaves] Kodor (Kodori or Kwydry) river, Abkhazia (holotype, M-VII-10617, Sukhum Botanical Garden, Sukhum, Abkhazia, n.v.).

Occurrence:—Pliocene (Maeotian); Caucasus.

Note:—The fossil-species Laurophyllum perseoides Kolakovsky & Schakryl (1970) was based on fossil leaves, preserved cuticular and stomata structure, revealing resemblance with the leaf epidermis of extant Persea species, viz. P. indica Spreng. ( Schakryl 1984) .
