Diagnosis. The forewing length is 16.0 mm in males and 18.5–19.0 mm in females. Philippinithosia reducta externally differs from its congeners in the unicolorous forewing lacking the dark suffusion on veins. The male genital capsule of the new species is most similar to P. settelei but can easily be distinguished by the elongate, footshaped setose apex of the valva (it is globular in the congener), the apically broader distal saccular process covered with larger spinules, and the longer and distally broader uncus. The phallus of P. reducta is somewhat longer than in P. settelei (in proportion to the tegumen-vinculum complex length). In the vesica structure, the new species is distinct from P. settelei by the longer and narrower proximal section, and the presence of a single distal diverticulum bearing a larger terminal cornutus. The female genitalia of P. reducta differ from P. settelei in the longer apophyses anteriores, and the presence of a semiglobular rugose diverticulum of the corpus bursae at the junction with the ductus bursae.
Distribution. The new species is currently known from the islands of Mindanao, Leyte and Samar (the Philippines).
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin ‘reducta’ meaning ‘reduced’ and refers to the reduced dark suffusion on the forewing veins. The name is a noun in the nominative singular in apposition.
