" Phorosia pellucida R. D."

A male of Myopa extricata Collin, 1960 . The specimen is well preserved but lacks the left middle leg.

The specimen bears the following labels: (1) "M. / pellucida / coll. Big." [round, white label]; (2) "Phorosia / pellucida R. D." [lightblue label].

This specimen was determined and labelled by RobineauDesvoidy and can therefore be interpreted as a syntype of Myopa pellucida RobineauDesvoidy, 1830: 244 . Since this specimen appears to be the only known syntype of Myopa pellucida it is herewith designated lectotype and the following label has been added: " Lectotypus / Myopa pellucida / RobineauDesvoidy, 1830 / des. Stuke & Clements, 2005" [red label, printed].

Chvála & Smith (1988) placed this species as a synonym of Myopa testacea (Linnaeus, 1767) . However, on the basis of the present specimen Myopa pellucida Robineau Desvoidy, 1830 should be placed as a senior synonym of Myopa extricata Collin, 1960 [syn. nov]. It should be noted that following Thompson (1997), it is known that the species described as Myopa extricata by Collin (1960) is a junior synonym of Myopa testacea Linnaeus, 1767 , and that the species long referred to as testacea by subsequent authors requires a replacement name. However, an application to the ICZN is in preparation to retain the current concepts of these two species, in accordance with Article 23.9 of the Code, and our use of the name extricata in this paper is therefore the same as that of other modern authors, pending the outcome of this application.
