Etymology. The species name boliviensis refers to the country where the type specimens were collected.
Differential diagnosis. Adults of Podotarsonemus boliviensis are very similar to those of Podotarsonemus ecuadorensis but can be distinguished by the following character states. Female P. boliviensis has extensive imbricate sculpturing on the dorsal plates, has a cheliceral tooth and lacks seta uʹʹ on tarsus II. In contrast, female P. ecuadorensis has smooth dorsal plates, lacks cheliceral teeth and has seta uʹʹ on tarsus II. Male P. boliviensis and P.
ecuadorensis are easily distinguished by several characters: P. boliviensis is the only Podotarsonemus with copulatory flange remnants on the genital capsule; P. boliviensis has vʹ on femorogenu IV and lacks setae v ′ and vʹʹ on tibia IV (absent and present, respectively, in P. ecuadorensis ); P. boliviensis has a shorter solenidion on tibia IV (7 vs 10–12); P. boliviensis lacks seta uʹʹ on tarsus II (present in P. ecuadorensis ) and retains seta uʹʹ on tarsus III (absent in P. ecuadorensis ); and setae e-e and f-f are placed closer: e -e 36–37 vs 18, f-f 29–30 vs 9.
Remarks. Among the Bolivian specimens, one female (considered in the description as the aberrant specimen) has a similar body size but has numerous measurements that are generally greater than the ranges recorded for the type series. For example, its body setae are longer dorsally: v1 (29 vs 20–21), sc2 (100 vs 50–75), c1 (37 vs 15–18), c2 (> 100 vs 44–54), d (33 vs 15–20), e (25 vs 15–8), but shorter ventrally, 1a (21 vs attenuate> 35), 2b (35 vs attenuate> 60). Its leg setae are also longer: Leg I—Fe lʹʹ (2 vs rudimentary), Fe vʹʹ (27 vs 12–21), Ge lʹ (14, 5–9), Ge vʹ (9 vs 4–5), Ti lʹ (15 vs 4–7), Ti vʹ (15 vs 5–9), Ti φ (6 vs 3–4); Leg II—Ti lʹ (22 vs 8–11), Ti vʹ (38 vs 18–24); Leg III—Ti lʹ (30 vs 11–15). However its distances between some body setae are shorter: d -d (68 vs 82–91), f -f (31 vs 39–50). This specimen also has imbricate sculpturing only behind sc2-sc2, c1-c1 and d -d.
