Type material. Holotype male, MARTINIQUE: Rivière Morose , small tributary, 4.iii.1989, L. Botosaneanu ( ZSM).

Diagnostic characters. The species can be separated from other species with more than 100 setae in each of cells m 1+2 and r 4+5, uniformly colored abdomen and foretibial scale with spur by having a spatulate anal point, base of superior volsella without microtrichia and projection long, slender, nearly straight and with lateral seta placed medially.

Etymology. Named in honor of the collector, Dr. Lazare Botosaneanu, formerly of Institute for Systematic and Population Biology, University of Amsterdam, for his numerous contributions to the knowledge of aquatic insects.

Male (n = 1)

Abdomen incomplete, not measurable. Wing length 1.36 mm. Wing length / length of profemur 1.80. Thorax, abdominal segments, femur, tibia and tarsi brown.

Head. AR 1.34. Ultimate flagellomere 364 µm long. Temporal setae 10 including 4 inner verticals, 4 outer verticals, and 2 postorbitals. Clypeus with 15 setae. Tentorium 130 µm long, 9 µm wide at posterior tentorial pit. Stipes 119 µm long. Palpomere length (in µm): 31, 38, 37, 52, 179. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 2.03. Third palpomere with 2 sensilla clavata.

Thorax. Acrostichals 10, dorsocentrals 11, prealars obscure on slide. Scutellum with 7 setae.

Wing. Anal lobe developed. VR 1.34. Brachiolum with 1 seta, Sc with 0, R with 24, R 1 with 14, R 4+5 with 37, M with 2, RM with 0, M 1+2 with 41, M 3+4 with 25, Cu with 17, Cu 1 with 20, PCu with 29, An with 1 seta. Cell m basal of RM with about 10, cell r 4+5 and m 1+2 each with more than 100, m 3+4 with about 70, an plus cu with about 115 macrotrichia. Squama with 7 setae.

Legs. Scale on foretibia 21 µm long, with 4 µm long subapical spur. Spurs on midtibia 43 µm long, on hind tibia 42 µm long. Comb on midtibia 5 µm long, combs on hind tibia 21 µm and 17 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 45 µm, of midtibia 50 µm, of hind tibia 45 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 7.

Hypopygium ( Figs 10A–C). Tergite IX with 12 median setae, laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Anal point 42 µm long, 10 µm wide at base, nearly parallel-sided medially, apex 7 µm wide. Transverse sternapodeme 55 µm long, phallapodeme 52 µm long. Gonocoxite 102 µm long. Total length of superior volsella ( Fig. 10C) 60 µm, projection nearly parallel-sided, very slender, with 1 lateral seta, base with 3 inner setae, microtrichia absent. Inferior volsella ( Fig. 10B) 48 µm long, with 1 prominent apical seta. Gonostylus 98 µm long. HR 1.05.

Distribution. Known from the holotype from Martinique Island.
