Pridonius Blackwelder 1952

Pridonius Blackwelder 1952: 321 , as subgenus of Quedius Stephens, 1829 (new name for Prionidus Bernhauer ). Type species: Quedius iheringi Bernhauer, 1907 , by autotypy.

= Prionidus Bernhauer 1907: 287 , as subgenus of Quedius Stephens, 1829 (preoccupied, not Uhler 1886 ( Hemiptera )). Type species: Quedius iheringi Bernhauer, 1907 , by original designation.

Notes: as valid genus, not subgenus of Quedius , moved to Philonthina ( Chani-Posse et al. 2018). Pridonius is a Neotropical genus, currently with only three species known from Brazil.

Quedius (Prionidus) iheringi Bernhauer 1907: 287 . Type locality: Jundiahy, San Paolo, Brasilien. Type depository: FMNH 1 ST. Distribution: Brazil (São Paulo). Notes: comb. nov. ex Quedius , moved to Philonthina (Chani- Posse et al 2017).

Pridonius penetrans ( Silvestri 1946) , comb. nov. ( Figs. 47–48 )

Belonuchus penetrans Silvestri 1946: 522 . Type locality: Campo Grande , Mato Grosso, Brasilia [ Brazil] . Type depository:? #? ST. Distribution : Brazil (Goiás, Mato Grosso) . Notes: “doubtfully termitophilous species” ( Seevers 1957); distribution within Brazil (Asenjo et al. 2013).

Remarks. Silvestri (1946) described B. penetrans based on specimens from Brazil. We have not seen the original material but we have no doubt that the specimen here examined is the species that Silvestri described, as interpreted later by Seevers (1957). This species, on the other hand, does not belong to the ‘ Belonuchus haemorrhoidalis clade’ but it is congeneric with the two currently known species of Pridonius Blackwelder , i.e., P. iheringi (Bernhauer) and P. sparsiventris (Bernhauer) .

Quedius (Prionidus) sparsiventris Bernhauer 1917e: 92 . Type locality: Ypiranga, Brasilien. Type depository: FMNH 2ST; MZSP? 1+ST. Distribution: Brazil (São Paulo). Notes: comb. nov. ex Quedius , moved to Philonthina ( Chani-Posse et al. 2018).
