Material examined
Holotype: female, E-1965: Croatia, Krk Island , Baska , Plato Mjeseca, 350 m, pine forest, from leaf-litter, 30 April 2006, leg. L. Dányi, paratypes: three females, locality same that of the holotype; one female, E-1962: Croatia, Krk Island, Glavotok camp, oak forest, from moss, 30 April 2006, leg. L. Dányi.
Diagnosis
Podonotal setae pilose, except i 3 and i 5. On opisthonotum, medial I-setae densely plumose, I 1–3 long, I 4–6 shorter, I 6 brush-like, strongly plumose. All five Z-setae and four S-setae present. Z 1–5, S 1 and S 3 densely plumose; S 2 and S 4 brush-like, strongly plumose, reaching beyond the margins of opisthonotum. Z 1 as long as I 1–3, other Z- and S-setae relatively shorter. Marginal R 1–4 setae pilose, remaining R-setae smooth. Dorsal fossae scarcely developed. Anterior margin of ventroanal shield with one pair of setae.
Description
Female. Length of idiosoma: 321–333 µm; width: 240–248 µm (n = 5).
Dorsal side. ( Figure 1A View Figure 1 ). On podonotum, 22 pairs of different setae: i-row with six pairs, z-row with two pairs, s-row with five pairs, r-row with seven pairs and p-row (not presented on dorsal figure, only visible on ventral view) with two pairs. Setae i 1, r 1 and r 4–7 strongly plumose, brush-like. Setae i 2, s 1–2 and r 2–3 relatively short, plumose, i 3 and i 5 short, needle-like and smooth, remaining setae elongated, plumose. Pores po 1 located near the insertions of setae s 1, po 2 with anterior position to insertions of setae s 3, po 3 situated on the line connecting s 4 and s 5, closer to s 4. Sculpture of podonotum reticulated, tile-like. On opisthonotum, 22 pairs of different setae: I-row with six pairs, Z-row with five pairs, S-row with four pairs, R-row with seven pairs. Setae I 1–3 elongated, densely plumose, I 4–5 half as long as I 1–2, plumose, I 6 situated on the posterior margin of opisthonotum, brush-like, strongly plumose. Setae I 1 never reaching the insertions of setae I 2, all other I-setae reaching the followings bases. Setae Z 1–5 plumose, Z 2 as long as I 1–2, other Z-setae shorter. Setae S 1 and S 3 ( Figure 1D View Figure 1 ) similar in shape to Z 1, S 2 ( Figure 1C View Figure 1 ) and S 4 brush-like, densely plumose, reaching beyond the margins of opisthonotum. Setae S 1 situated posterolaterally to Z 1. Setae R 1–4 pilose, others thickened, pointed and smooth. Setae R 1 twice as long as other R-setae, others in the row similar in length. Pores Po 1 located anteromedially to bases of Z 1, Po 2 inside the line connecting S 1 and Z 2, closer to S 1, Po 3 located under the line connecting Z 3 and S 3, Po 4 situated near the insertions of setae S 4. Dorsal fossae scarcely developed, equal in size. Opisthonotum covered with spot-like bulbs. Irregular pits can be observed between I- and Z-rows.
The size of setae and the distances between their insertions as in Table 1 (measurements are given as mean, in micrometres).
Ventral side. ( Figure 1B View Figure 1 ). Shape, chaetotaxy and adenotaxy of ventral shields typical for the genus and genus Prozercon , both peritremal setae short, smooth and needle-like. Posterolateral tips of peritremal shield expanding to the level of setae R 4-5. Adgenital gland openings absent. Anterior margin of ventroanal shield with one pair of setae. Seven pairs of preanal setae, the single pair of adanal setae and postanal seta short, smooth and needle-like. Anal valves with needle-like euanal setae. Peritremal shield with tile-like ornamentation and longitudinal fissures, sternal shield weakly sclerotized, with irregular pattern, ventroanal shield covered by squamous pattern.
Male and immature stages. Unknown.
Etymology
The new species is dedicated in honour of Márta Kiss, a colleague and dear friend.
Remarks
The new species belongs to the group bearing pilose marginal setae on opisthonotum, within this group it is closely related to Prozercon bircanae Urhan, 1998 , Prozercon kamili Urhan and Ayyildiz, 1996 and Prozercon ornatus ( Berlese, 1904) by having strongly plumose, brush-like S 2 setae which reach beyond the margin of idiosoma. The distinctive characters between the four species are presented in Table 2.
