Bourguignat (1852: 28−29) reported the type locality of Unio euphraticus as “A cl. Olivero circa urbem Bagdad in Tigride flumine, collecta fuit” [area of Baghdad, Tigris River ]. The native range of P. euphratica was listed as Iraq and Iran by Lopes-Lima et al. (2021). The reproductive biology of this species in Iraq was studied by Al-Mahdawi and Al-Dulaimi (2004).
