Bates (1880) described P. caudalis based on a single male from Guatemala (Escuintla). Bates (1885) recorded the species from Mexico (Vera Cruz), and the Guatemalan departments of Quetzaltenango and Suchitepéquez. Turnbow et al. (2003) listed the species from Honduras.

Material examined. MEXICO, Nayarit (New state record): El Venado (50 m), 1 female, 20.VII.1998, G. Nogueira col. ( DHCO) .
