Comments. Wiedemann (1830: 461) cited the type specimens as deposited in the Winthem’s collection and in his collection. According to O’Hara (2013: 31), the Wilhelm von Winthem’s collection including the Christian R.C. Wiedemann collection was sold to the NHMW. The collection of NHMW, has one specimen from Montevideo (DIP 749), with the apex of the terminalia broken or missing, labelled by L.D. Wendt as possible holotype ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) but correspond really to a syntype. Besides, there are more three specimens belonging to the Winthem collection. One specimen apparently is a female (DIP 751), the second is a male from Brazil (DIP 750) and the third is a male with no locality label (DIP. 752) ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). In accordance with the ICZN (1999, Article 74), the specimen labelled as: O. fasciata m / Montevideo / Besk. De Winth. // fasciata / Coll. Wiedem. // Possible Holotype / Ortalis fasciata / L.D.Wendt 2017 // Lectotype / Ortalis fasciata / Wiedemann, 1830 / Des. Mello & González 2023 // NHMW-ZOO-DIP 0000749, is here designated as lectotype, and the other members of the type series (DIP 750, 751, and 752) as paralectotypes. The synonymy of Tephritis quinquefasciata Macquart, 1851 and Ortalis fasciata Wiedemann, 1830 was indicated by Wulp (1883) and Brèthes (1923).
