5. Puccinia ibrae J.F. Hennen & McCain (1993: 976) .
Type:― MEXICO. Veracruz: 34 mi S. of Panuco, 1974, on Ipomoea sp. , Joe F. Hennen and Pablo Buriticá s.n. ( PUR 65610). Figure 2 F− H View FIGURE 2 .
Spermogonia and aecia unknown. Uredinia ( Aecidium type) 0.3–0.5 mm across, sometimes locally systemic along veins, usually scattered in circular groups of (1–)5–30 or more, whitish; peridium cylindrical, breaking away around upper part; peridial cells 26–32(–40) × 15–20(–28) μm in face view, irregularly flattened polygonal, imbricate, wall 2.5– 3.5(–8) μm thick, colorless, inner-facing surface strongly rugose-verrucose, outer wall mostly smooth. Urediniospores catenulate, 23–31 × 20–26 μm, irregularly broadly ellipsoid, often narrowing to a round or truncate apex, round below, spore wall 1–2 μm thick laterally, or sometimes more in angles of angular spores, 3–11 μm thick at apex, colorless, evenly finely verrucose but smooth on one side, without refractive granules, germ pores not seen. Telia usually next to the uredinia, 0.2–0.4 mm across, blackish, somewhat pulverulent; teliospores 43–46(–48) × 28–32 μm, irregularly broadly ellipsoid, obovoid, ovoid, or oblong, sometimes narrowed above, rounded below, not constricted at septum, wall bilaminate 1.5–3(–5) μm thick at sides, (3–)5–7 μm thick at juncture of septum and side walls, 6–9 μm thick at apex, chestnut-brown, verrucose, warts 2.5–3(–4) μm apart, pedicel thin-walled, colorless, collapsing ( Hennen and McCain 1993). Life cycle (?/?, IIcv, III).
Specimen examined ― MEXICO. Veracruz: Panuco, 10 Nov 1974, on Ipomoea sp. , Joe F. Hennen & Pablo C. Buritica 74−171, 74−172 (PUR89929!, PUR89832!- Paratypes), Catenaco, 15 Nov.1974, on Ipomoea sp. , Joe F. Hennen & Pablo C. Buritica 74−232 (PUR89830); HONDURAS, CORTÉS: San Pedro Sula, 17 Feb 1996, on Ipomoea sp. , Joe F. Hennen 96−55.
Distribution ― Puccinia ibrae is known from Mexico ( Hennen and McCain 1993; Farr and Rossman 2015) and Honduras ( Hennen et al. 2005).
Notes ―The thickening of the teliospore wall at the juncture of the septum with the lateral wall and at the spore apex and the scattered verrucae, are important features for the identification of this species ( Hennen & McCain 1993). See the discussion in P. hyalostrata for more details about similarities and differences. The illustration of Figure 2F− H View FIGURE 2 was obtained from material of Hennen 96−55.
