Puccinia marrubii differs from P. serpylli Lindr. (1904: 10) , P. malvacearum Bertero ex Mont. (1852: 43) , P. salviae Unger (1836: 218) and P. annularis (F. Strauss) G. Winter (1884: 165) by the colour of the teliospore wall by possessing both mesospores and 3–4 celled teliospores and by its DNA phylogeny (for more detail, see Table 2).

Holotype: — TURKEY. Niğde: Çamardı, Emli Valley, 1800–2000 m, on Marrubium globosum subsp. globosum Montbret & Aucher ex Benth. ( Lamiaceae ), 25 June 2015, Ş.Kabaktepe 8121 ( INU 12569-2016).

Paratypes: — TURKEY. Niğde: Çamardı, Emli Valley, 1900–2200 m, 6 October 2015, Ş.Kabaktepe 8430 ( INU 12570-2016). Malatya:Akçadağ, Bölüklü Village, Koru Mountain, steppe, 2000 m, 8 June 2013, Ş.Karakuş 4295 ( INU 12568-2016).

Etymology: —The epithet refers to the host genus, Marrubium .

Spermogonia, aecia and uredinia absent. Telia amphigenous scattered or in group, 0.2–2 mm diameter, causing leaf deformation, elongated on petioles up to 7 mm long, covered by the epidermis, blackish. Teliospores 2 rarely 3 or 4 cells, 42–65× 16–26 μm, ellipsoid, oblong, rarely clavoid, rounded at both ends, sometimes straight at apex, sometimes attenuated at base, constricted at septum, pore at apex in upper cell, equatorial in the lower cell, wall cinnamon brown, 1–2 μm thick at sides, up to 8 μm at apex, smooth, pedicel hyaline, persistent, up to 110 μm long. Mesospores ellipsoid, 38–56 × 16–24 μm, wall cinnamon brown, 1–2 μm thick at sides, up to 6 μm at apex, smooth, Basidia not seen.
