Distribution: Mexico (Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Veracruz), U.S.A. (Oklahoma, Texas).
Quercus galeanensis C.H.Mull., J. Arnold Arbor. View in CoL 17(3): 173 (1936). Type:— MEXICO, Nuevo León: C. H. Muller & M. T. Muller 2168 (Holotype: A00069895 !; isotypes: F!, ILL!, MO!, UCSB (fragment)!). This species is close to Q. depressa View in CoL , and additional study is needed to determine if it is really distinct.
Distribution: Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas).
Quercus gambelii Nutt., Proc. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia View in CoL 4(1): 22 (1848). Type:— U.S.A.: W. Gambel s. n. (Holotype: PH?; isotypes: GH?!, K!). It is uncertain whether the actual collection locality of Gambel s.n. was in New Mexico or Texas. The type locality is just “On the banks of the Rio del Norte” which is an alternate name for the Rio Grande. For additional synonyms based on non Latin American types see Nixon (1997).
