Reticularia intermedia Nann. View in CoL -Bremek. (1958: 773)

Material studied:— SRI LANKA. Hakgala, Apr 1906, J. Petch, box B.M. 2826 [ BM001247524 ], + one slide, s.n. [ BM001247535 !] as Reticularia lycoperdon .

This sample was initially determined as Reticularia lycoperdon Bull. and subsequently revised by Nannenga-Bremekamp in 1964 as noted on the revision label and assigned to R. intermedia . The macroscopic description of this sample agrees with the original description by Nannenga-Bremekamp (1958), except for the spore size, which in this sample is somewhat smaller than 7–9 μm in diam.

Reticularia intermedia resembles R. lycoperdon , but differs in the pseudocapillitium, which in the latter has a broad base from which branched filaments with dendroid morphology arise. It differs from R. jurana by its pseudocapillitium which in the latter usually has perforated plates, although this feature is difficult to observe in some specimens. Under SEM spore ornamentation of the B.M. samples studied from R. intermedia and R. jurana are similar.
